What is Tenzo?
Tenzo is the Zen Buddhist term for "Cook." In the monastery, the Cook holds an honored position because he is the one who nourishes and nurtures the community. Following this philosophy, we use only pure, all-natural ingredients. There are no preservatives or chemicals in our products. This allows the true flavor of our ingredients to shine, and to be enjoyed the way they were meant to be.
All of our products are personally prepared by our professionally trained Pastry Chef, Janice Shih. In a previous life, Janice was a successful Obstetrician/Gynecologist who left medicine to pursue something more creative. After graduating from the Pastry Arts Programme at L'Academie de Cuisine, a program founded by and taught in the tradition of former White House Pastry Chef, Roland Mesnier, Janice apprenticed at Joy America Cafe and Spike & Charlies Restaurant and Wine Bar, where she was involved in designing and creating delicious edible works of art.
Janice firmly believes in living mindfully, and in making pastries and foods that are harmonious with the palate as well as the spirit.
